Snapplication Form

***the new DEADLINE TO APPLY IS August 8th, 6pm***
*Spaces are limited *

Please note that this program is open to people of colour and Indigenous people ONLY. This is because we are trying to create a space in which we can talk about our experiences around race and racism freely (i.e. without censoring ourselves, worrying about offending people, etc.).

By people of colour and Indigenous people we mean anyone who is not white
i.e. Indigenous, a person of colour, mixed race, First Nations, Inuit, Métis, African, Carribean, Latin American, Asian, Middle Eastern, Black, Brown, Red, Yellow, non-white, non-European, raced, invisible or visible minority

SNAPPLICATION QUESTIONS:

You can answer in English or French. Your answers can be however short or long you want them to be. You can skip any questions you want.

***********************
Name:
Age:
Phone Number:
Email (if any):
What is the best way to reach you?

How did you find out about “Snap! Moving to Our Own Beats”?

***********************
Are you a person of colour, an Indigenous person, a visibile minority, mixed race, non-white, etc.?
You can just answer yes or no, but feel free to elaborate…
***********************
What social, political or environmental issues are you most interested in, and/or currently engaged with? Why?
i.e., what are you working on, learning about, arguing about, thinking about in the middle of the night, etc.?

Some examples are (this is in no way a comprehensive list, obviously!): workers rights, domestic violence, the so called “war on terrorism”, Canadian colonialism, sexism, gay liberation, etc.

***********************
Do you believe that all people should be free? And that all people should be free of oppression, discrimination and prejudice?
This includes people of colour, Indigenous people, immigrants, gay people, queer people, transgender and transsexual people, women, people with disabilities, fat people, poor people, all kinds of people.
DON’T SWEAT IT, if you are not quite sure what all this means. We just want to know if you feel it in your heart…
***********************
What skills are you most interested in learning at Snap!?
The program consists of many workshops meant to be starting points for you to start learning or continue learning certain skills that can help you in the future – to start your own projects or join other groups working on issues you are interested in. Some examples of such skills are:
making posters and flyers, talking to the media, organizing events, etc.
***********************
Have you, or someone close to you, ever experienced racism or some kind of discrimination? What did you do or wish you had done?
Not a right or wrong question…
In an ideal world, this would never happen. But since its just a question, we wanna know how you felt and how you wish you had felt, what you did and what you wish you had done. For everyone, there’s always a difference…
***********************
Optional: How does discrimination affect your own life?
Again, not a right/wrong question…
We believe that our own personal experiences are the best tools for learning and growing, especially when it comes to learning about discrimination and oppression.
For example, if you grew up poor, if you're fat, if you're queer…. These things affect how we interact with the world and if / how we are discriminated against.

DON’T ANSWER THIS QUESTION if you don’t feel comfortable, though we would appreciate it, as it will help us develop the program.
*********************** Do you have any specific needs or requests that we should be aware of?
(i.e. dietary restrictions, physical accessibility needs, allergies, etc.) Will you need childcare?
(i.e. dietary restrictions, physical accessibility needs, allergies, etc.)

For childcare, we will contact you soon to make arrangements

*********************** Do you want a scholarship or stipend to attend Snap!? If so, how much are you requesting, and what would it be for? Don't be shy! - you can request between $50-$200. The amount given will be determined based on needs and availability of funds. (Don't forget that snacks, childcare and metro tickets will be provided).

Things to consider when making your request:

Will you be taking time off from work? Will participating in Snap! affect your time and energy available for earning money or saving money in other ways? Will you have to pay for childcare at home? Will you need a bus pass? Will you need extra cash for food during or around the program? Would you like to be paid for your participation or your time?
***********************
