and Indigenous people, ages 16 - 30

to help you fight for your rights, your people and what you believe in.

their communities
- want to hang out / share experiences / learn with and from other young people
of colour and Indigenous people.
Snap! Moving to Our Own Beats is...
Snap! is a summer program for young people of colour and Indigenous people,
ages 16 to 30, to learn skills, share ideas and gain experiences that will help
us change the world we live in ending racism and all forms of discrimination
and oppression that affect us.
We are moving to our own beats because this is a program for
youth, by youth. We believe that we know best what affects
us, and how we can - and do - affect change.
We are looking for young people of colour and Indigenous people in Montreal
to attend our summer program, which takes place over three weekends in August,
with a graduation party at the end of September. Snap! is designed for people
of all levels of experience - from those who want to get involved but don't
know where to start, to long-time activists who want to strengthen the movement.
Snap! is a combination of analytical, practical and creative skills training.
Some of the issues we will be covering include the prison system,
capitalism and the military, gender and sexuality,
and building community alternatives. Some of the hands on pracitical
skills we'll be learning are event organizing, speaking
out, popular theatre, silkscreening and stencil
making, desktop publishing and website design.
To see the full schedule, check out the <calendar>
page.
This year, the Snap! program includes two creative group projects - a radio
production project in collaboration with CKUT Radio
McGill, and a visual arts project in collaboration with the Ste.
Emilie Skillshare. Participants will work together on these projects,
and the final products will be launched at the Snap! Graduation / Vernissage
at the end of September.
The program is FREE, with
scholarships/bursaries/stipends (i.e. $$$) available
to participants on a needs basis (see the application form).
***If you are interested in being a participant of Snap! please fill

Radio Project:
SNAP! MOVING TO ARE OWN VOICES -
A SKILLS SHARE TO CREATE ARE OWN HISTORY AROUND THE STRUGGLES AGAINST
RACISM AND POLICING.
Part of creating are own spaces and voices as people of colour, Indigenous
people and youth, is to amplify are history and struggle, whether that
be through art,
spoken word, music, writing and also Radio.
Media is one of the tools used by mass media to create fear and hysteria
in order to increase policing in our communities, but also to silence
the
struggles women have faced through history such as the over 500 missing
Indigenous women, the struggle of sex workers.
Yet radio and community radio have always been on the other side of this
as a way to amplify those struggles. So in conjunction with CKUT Radio,
the
creation of a series of workshops and trainings from interviewing
techniques, to audio production, to how to use a radio studio. To create
a
documentary series on the issues of policing in Montreal and the struggles
for justice and dignity … because if we do not create this voice
who will?
So as part of SNAP join the radio project in a 3 part training session
and
production on documentaries on policing.
Weekend One:
1. Basic training of how to use a production studio
2. Recording techniques and interviewing techniques
3. how to use a minidisk recorder
4. brainstorming on story ideas
Weekend Two:
1. Recording interviews with people at Jeunese 2000 and beginning to put
into computers

1. Production training
